General Manager Welcome
When you become a customer of Holston Electric you also become a member/owner of the Cooperative, you join more than 30,000 members who share in the HEC ownership.
The very heart of this Cooperative is the people who own it. I invite you to attend HEC's annual meeting on the second Tuesday in October. The Board of Directors is elected during the annual meeting. The Board hires the General Manager to oversee the day to day operation of your cooperative. The General Manager hires the employees.
Monthly communication with you, the customer-owners of the cooperative, is through The Tennessee Magazine. I urge you to read the magazine to stay informed about your cooperative and the energy industry. And I know you’ll enjoy the interesting articles about people and places here in Tennessee.
Holston Electric Cooperative buys the electricity it sells to you from the Tennessee Valley Authority. Nearly 84 cents of every dollar you spend for electricity goes directly to TVA to purchase power. The remainder is used by your cooperative to build, maintain and repair lines, pay salaries, taxes, etc.
Loans for building electric lines are borrowed from the Rural Utility Services. RUS is a federal agency that loans low interest, long-term money to electric cooperatives organized to serve rural areas.
I pledge to you my support and the support of all Holston EC employees in fulfilling our obligations. Our goal is to provide you with dependable service at the lowest possible cost. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of service.
